Ontario Ministry of Education, MPP Pat Hoy (L — Chatham-Kent-Essex) has announced that starting September 2011, all junk food will be banned from Ontario schools. This means, no more candy, chocolate, pop, fries and energy drinks for sale on school property. This decision was made after noticing the increasing trend of overweight children.
The goal is to teach kids how to make better food choices. School menus will change and include healthier choices like fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grain breads. This change will be enforced on the school cafeterias, and there will be no more junk food vending machines. Also, there will be a mandatory 20-minute daily activity for elementary schools.
What do you think? Can you do without your mid-day sugar?

Coko188That's easy, just bring your own junk food. That, you're allowed. And, it's cheaper that way too.

SamanthaHonestly, there should still be frying allowed, my school is baking everything now. We are at an age where we can make our own decisions, wheter or not we would like to pay for something that is either healthy or not too healthy for us. Our fries are all baked, which makes it taste like stale fries, our french fries had tasted like Costco fries! Our drinks have all turned diet, and in a sense diet is much worse than regular; just because the bottle or can says diet, does not mean that it is healthy. Our Ontario of Ministry of Eduaction need to actually change the rules a little. I hate paying 3.00 dollars for stale tasting fries. I really would not mind paying .25 cents more just for french fries that taste like costcos.
